Cure Rate Of Burn Treatment In No. 304 Hospital Of
In the first year of the century, good news frequently appeared one after another from the department of burn plastic surgery of the No. 304 Army Hospital. One research project was awarded the first grade prize for medical science and technology in the whole army, one won the "10-5" important project prize and one won the prize of high clinical technology in the army. A total of 746 cases of burn were admitted during the whole year, among them 136 cases had burns of severe degree, with the burned area of more than 95 % and more than 90 % had grade III burns in addition to 11 cases with extremely severe complications. The rate of cure was 99.6 %. Because of the outstanding achievements in the treatment of burn, this department had been honorably conferred upon the collective merit of the first grade in the army. Commanded by the well known specialist of burn, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Professor Sheng Zhiyong, this department of burn had obtained numerous achievements in recent years.
The largest hypothermic allogenic skin bank in China was established after the research on the storage of skin samples in liquid nitrogen launched jointly by Academician Sheng Zhiyong and Professor Zhu Zhaoming. The survival rate of skin graft has been stabilized at approximately 95 %. Professor Chai Jiake, chief of the department of burn and plastic surgery conducted the clinical and experimental study of sepsis associated with severe burn cases and proposed the diagnostic criterion and clinical comprehensive treatment regime which enabled remarkable progress in the clinical prophylaxis of sepsis of burn in China; the incidence had decreased from 43.9 % in the early period of the 90's down to 26.0 % and the incidence of syndrome of multiple organ functional impairment and mortality had dropped down respectively from 17.3 % and 87.5 % down to 6.9 % and 40.0 %. They had studied and developed the early and late functional rehabilitation therapy for the management of multiple scar contractures of the extremities, enabling ambulation of the prolonged bed ridden patients and resume their working activities.
