研究发现,在参加调查研究的123位芬兰女性中,只有9%的人认为不健康的饮食习惯与她们的疾病有关,但将近32%的人在确诊后改变了她们的饮食习惯。年轻一些的女性及受过高等教育的妇女更容易接受健康饮食的观念。事实上,能从医生护士那里得到营养方面建议的妇女还不到20%,只有11%的人是能得到营养学家的指导。三分之一的女性是从大众媒体上了解这方面知识的。
芬兰土尔库大学的哈那莱斯·卓姆医生认为,如今健康问题变得越来越重要了,乳癌的诊断结果可以使妇女重新反省自己的生活方式。病人在医生提供的建议之外仍在自己寻求方法维护自己的健康。有关健康饮食的知识和及时的饮食建议是很重要的,因为医护人员的建议可以增强病人对饮食及健康之间的联系的认识,并且相互之间沟通一下饮食观念,有利于改变饮食习惯从而达到健康饮食的目的。

NEW YORK (Reuters Health) - Many women adopt the philosophy that it is ``better later than never‘‘ to use a healthy diet as a way to lower disease risk, study findings suggest.
According to the report in the European Journal of Clinical Nutrition, many women reduced their intake of animal fat, sugar and red meat; ate more fruits and vegetables; and took dietary supplements after they received a diagnosis of breast cancer.

While only about 9% of 123 Finnish women surveyed believed that an unhealthy diet had contributed to their disease, nearly 32% changed their dietary habits after they were diagnosed. Younger women and those with higher levels of education were more likely to adopt a healthy diet, investigators report.
In an interview with Reuters Health, study author Dr. Hanna Lagstrom, from the University of Turku, Finland, explained that a diagnosis of breast cancer causes a woman to re-think her lifestyle.

``Health issues become more important and patients seek a way to influence their own well-being apart from what is provided by doctors,‘‘ she said. ``It is not unusual for patients to seek extravagant diets or use alternative healing approaches.‘‘
The study also points to a need for dietary information. Indeed, less than 20% of women received nutrition advice from doctors and nurses and only 11% were advised by dietitians. One third of women surveyed took advice from the mass media.
``Knowledge about a healthy diet and current recommendations is essential, since interventions that increase the patient‘s beliefs in diet and health associations and communicate diet recommendations can encourage healthful dietary change,‘‘ the authors conclude.
