Abstract
AIM: To evaluate correlations for the staging of colorectal cancer between enhanced multi-slice spiral computed tomography (MSCT) pneumocolon and surgical pathology.
METHODS: Thirty-two patients diagnosed with colorectal cancer from surgery were examined by a three-phase enhanced scan with MSCT. Cancer was staged by Tumor, Node, Metastases (TNM) by axial images and multi-planar reformation (MPR) images. MSCT findings were compared with post- operative pathologic staging.
RESULTS: The diagnostic accuracy of T-stage and N-stage before operation, metastasizing and the TNM-stage of MSCT in colorectal cancer was 90.63% (29/32), 84.38% (27/32), 100% (4/4) and 90.63% (29/32), respectively. All correlated with surgical appearances and pathological findings (Kappa: 0.807, 0.673, 1.0 and 0.803, respectively, both P < 0.01).
CONCLUSION: A very good correlation exist between manifestations on enhanced MSCT with MPR and operative pathology ......
