Abstract
AIM: To study the preventive and therapeutic effects of a preparation of Chinese Allium fistulosum L (PCAL) on fatty liver rats.
METHODS: Sixty sprague–dawley rats were randomly divided into six groups; a blank control group (n = 10), model control group (n = 10), low-, medium- and high-dose PCAL (PCAL low, PCAL medium and PCAL high, respectively, n = 10 in each group), and a Dongbaogantai group (n = 10). The blank control group was given water and food. Other groups were fed with a high-fat diet, given water with 15% ethanol, and treated with a small dose of carbon tetrachloride (CCl4) hypodermically once a week to establish the fatty liver model. All animals were sacrificed after 8 wk. Plasma total cholesterol (TC), triglyceride (TG), high-density lipoprotein-cholesterol (HDL-C), low-density lipoprotein-cholesterol (LDL-C), alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), total protein (TP), albumin (ALB), globulin (GLO), and A/G (albumin/globulin) were determined by an automatic biochemistry analyzer ......
