Beijing Fuwai Cardiovascular Hospital Makes Great
During the last seven years, a total of 530 cases undergone aortal surgery in Fuwai Hospital, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences; the operative complications and the fatality rate of thoracic aneurysm of the aorta, and the dissecting aneurysm of the aorta etc. were remarkably decreased.
The incidence of operative complications and the fatality rate of aneurysm of the thoracic aorta and dissecting aneurysm of the aorta are very high. This hospital started aortal surgery as of 1958 and by the end of 1983 a total of 273 cases underwent various aortic surgery, resulting in a fatality rate of as high as 20.1%. For a rapid improvement of the level of surgical quality of the major blood vessels, the research group headed by Professor Sun Lizhong of this hospital conducted a study on "a systemic research on the surgical treatment of aneurysm of thoracic aorta and dissecting aneurysm of the aorta since January 1994. They used the technique of "pulmonary cardiac bypass with trans-right axillary and the subclavicular arterial cannulation and selective cerebral perfusion" which resulted in a notable decrease of postoperative cerebral complications after surgery of aortic aneurysm of the aortic arch. The application of "the method of city gate hole for anastomosis of the coronary artery" avoided massive hemorrhage during replacement of root of aorta in those cases of less displacement of the coronary arterial orifice, and sequentially the operative fatality was remarkably decreased; the method of "trans femoral artery auto-blood transfusion with blood pump" enabled further security during surgery and in about 1/3 of the patients the blood supplied from the blood bank, was cancelled and the volume of blood used decreased remarkably. The "trans-sternal minimal incision for aortic root replacement" brought to the concret embodiment of minimal incision operative idea on aortic surgery.

Professor Sun in his practice also proposed the new methods of typing and classification for dissecting aneurysm of the arota, the indications of operation in cases with combined conditions at the same setting and the surgical principles in the cases of different combinations of the pathologic conditions. Professor Sun also established the surgical indications suitable for the Chinese patients, the operative methods and the new view points for prophylaxis and treatment measures during the peri-operative period. By the time of June 2001, Professor Sun et al. had completed 530 cases of aortic surgery with the postoperative fatality of only 4.34 % 30 days after surgery. Among them there were 306 cases of aneurysm of the thoracic aorta with a postoperative fatality of 3.59 % 30 days after surgery, the incidence of complications was 11.76 %, and the 5 year survival rate was 79.6 %; in the 224 cases of dissecting aneurysm of aorta, the postoperative fatality rate was 3.59 % 30 days after surgery., 百拇医药
