    The diagnostic value of combined serum tumor markers for malignant tumors of alimentary system

    Abstract

    AIM To study the value of combined multiple tumor markers in serum in diagnosis of malignant tumors of alimentary system.

    METHODS The serum CEA, AFP, SF, β₂-MG, CA19-9 and CA50 le vels of 119 cases of alimentary system carcinoma and 56 cases of benign diseases were measured by RIA or ELISA methods.

    RESULTS In primary hepatic cancer, AFP had highest sensitivity, when it combined with SF and CA19-9, the diagnostic positivity could be raised to 92.0%. In pancreatic cancer, the most sensitive tumor marker was CA19-9 (7 6.2%). The sensitivity would be 85.7% and 95.2% by combined assays with CA19 -9, SF and CA50, respectively. For gastric cancer and colorectal cancer, the di agnostic positivity was lower than 80% although combined with 6 markers. ......
