The effects of Tong Guan Huo Lou You on pain relief, anti-inflammation and subsidence of swelling were observed and verified. The hot-plate method in mice and the tail-flick latency method were used to determine the pain-alleviating effect. The albumin and carrageenan paw swelling methods in rats were used to determine the anti-inflammatory effects and the traumatic paw swelling method in mice to determine the effects of swelling subsidence. The pathological examination was done with the help of microscope and electron-microscope for observation. The results showed that the treatment group with the external application of this drug achieved a better effect, which was verified by the pathological examination. It is concluded that Tong Guan Huo Lou You has good effects on subsidence of swelling, anti-inflammation and pain relief.
