Animal experiment on analgesia, antiª²inflammation and acute toxic effects of herbs in Yaobao bag

    ¡¾Abstract¡¿ AIM: To observe the analgesia and antiª²inflammation effects of the herbs in Yaobao bag and to detect their skin irritation allergic reaction and cytotoxicity. METHODS: The effects of the herbs in Yaobao bag on the value of rabbits¬ð pain threshold and the times of body movement were detected by heat board method and body movement method respectively and those on the inflammatory reaction resulting from Dimethylbenzene was detected by rats¬ð swelling ears method. The allergic reaction was observed after applying the herbs on the skin of Guinea pigs and the cytotoxicity was observed in rabbits. RESULTS: Herbs in the Yaobao bag improved the animals¬ð pain threshold value and significantly decreased times of their body movement (P<0.01), but the overall effects were not as good as those in the group with Analgin administered through intubation feeding (P<0.01). Against inflammation resulting from Dimethylbenzene, the herbs in Yaobao bag had better effects than those in the contrast group using dexamethasone (P<0.01). No skin irritation, allergy and cytotoxicity were observed. CONCLUSION: Herbs in Yaobao bag have potent analgesic and antiª²inflammatory effects with no skin irritation, allergy,constitutional and cytotoxicity. ......
