Not long ago, a research project in Xijing Hospital, the Fourth Military Medical University proved that in China the occurrence of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) was closely related with HCV infection; the result of this study provided important theoritical and clinical foundation for the prevention and treatment of HCC.

With the purpose of investigating the relationship and significance of HCV with apoptosis, the researchers of the department of gastrointestinal surgery, hepatobiliary surgery and the department of pathology in basic science jointly studied 56 cases of liver cirrhosis (LC), 53 cases of HCC and 45 specimens of liver tissue adjacent to the hepatic carcinoma, using immuno-biochemical methods for the detection of the distribution of antigen at the HCV core region and antigen at the NS2 region in the tissue of LC and HCC. Simultaneously, continuous section was performed for the detection of in situ apoptosis and the calculation of the index of apoptosis.

Result of the study showed that the antigen of the HCV core region located in the cytoplasm or the nucleus of the liver cell or HCC cells. In the LC tissue, the core antigen distributed diffusely in the cytoplasm of the liver cells, and only occasionally seen in the liver cells with positively stained nucleus, with a positive rate of 60.7 % (34/56). In the carcinoma tissue the distribution of core antigen were mainly seen in the positively stained nucleus, with a positive rate of 37.6 % (20/53). In HCC, the AI value (0.174±0.093) of translocation expression of HCV core antigen in the carcinoma tissue was significantly lower than that in the carcinoma tissue with positive cytoplasm (0.512±0.113) (P<0.01). The antigen of HCV NS.3 region was located in the cytoplasm of the liver cells and the liver cancer cells, and the positive rate in the LC and HCC tissues were respectively 53.6 % (30/56) and 39.6 % (21/53). No correlation was observed in the expression of antigen in the HCV.NS3 region and the apoptosis of liver cancer cells.

The results of this study showed that in China HCV infection was closely related to the occurrence of LC and HCC. Nucleus translocation expression often occurred in the HCV core antigen in the liver tissue, which inhibited the apoptosis of the cancer cells and then predisposed further worsening of tumor malignancy., 百拇医药
