+Dr. Yin Dakui, chairman of the Chinese Physician's Association summarized at the forum the results of a randomized questionnaire survey from nearly 2000 doctors in five different regions (see the contents in the 2nd edition of CMT April 25th 2002). "The Chinese physicians possess excellent disposition" said Chairman Yin. As was manifested in the "World health report of 2000" China has offered fundamental health service for 22 % of the world's population with approximately 1 % of the total expenditure of world health, and has solved the health problem for a country having the largest population in the world, with the achievement of health level ranging at the 61st among the 192 countries. The health status of the Chinese people was listed in the front row among the developing countries and surpassed the levels of the countries with middling income. The achievement has attracted attention of the common people while it also condensed with the hardships and exertions of the broad mass of the medical personnel. Naturally the Chinese physicians have good enough reasons to be rewarded with recognition and respect from a national scale and in social circle.

Dr. Yin also pointed out that in a fierce contrast with the above mentioned situation, 60 % of the physicians underwent this survey expressed a negative attitude with their environment of medical practice; 74.29 % of the doctors considered their legal interest being unprotected and 81.34 % considered their salary did not match with their highly risky and sophisticated technological professional activities; 53.96 % expressed their unwillingness to have their children to be engaged in medical service in their future career. Year by year the cases of medical disputes were increasing and an unprecedented tension of the relationship between the patients and the medical personnel existed.

He considered that in an overall situation of step by step perfection of the socialist legal system, the physician's group is demanded to have self construction, enhancement of legal awareness, specification of their own medical professional behavior. For the protection of the physician's own legal interest, the only effective measure is to have the physicians to conduct with a strict self-discipline. Additionally, it is also the responsibility of the laity to appeal society as a whole to respect, to acknowledge the medical profession and to prepare a satisfactory environment of medical practice., 百拇医药
