Researchers in Zhengzhou discovers a new marker
Professor Dong Zhiming, adviser of doctorate student, director of college of basic medicine, Zhengzhou University and Dr. Zhao Guoqiang, associate professor in microbiology and immunology with the financial assistance from the State Foundation of Natural Science, conducted an in depth study on pathogenesisof esophageal carcinoma in Henan province. A specific human DNA polymerase β mutant gene (M-POLB) was discovered among the patients with carcinoma of the esophagus and report had been submitted for the application for state patent of invention.
Human DNA polymerase β gene is a kind of important plerosis gene in the human body; some researchers named it "sentinel enzyme" which plays a role of repairing the damage or mutant gene. Once mutation occurs at the plerosis gene the result will be loss of repair ability and hazard to the human body.
The researchers discovered that normal DNA polymerase β gene existed in the normal individuals, however, in the majority of the patients with carcinoma of the esophagus, DNA polymerase β gene variation occurred. In Linzhou city which is a high incidence area of esophageal cancer in China, the detection of M-POLB is positive in more than 80 % of the surgical specimens., 百拇医药
