Changes of perioral muscle pressure in patients with skeletal crossbite after orthodontic and surgical treatment

    ¡¾Abstract¡¿ AIM: To study the changes of perioral muscle pressure in the patients with skeletal crossbite before and after orthodontic and surgical treatment. METHODS£º All 20 patients in this research were diagnosed to be skeletal crossbite. The perioral muscle pressures acting on upper and lower central incisors, cuspids and first molars were measured labially (buccally) and lingually before and after orthodontic and surgical treatment. RESULTS£º After the treatment, the perioral force on the labial side of mandibular incisors£¬which is the largest before the treatment, decreased more than that in other areas (P<0.01). And the perioral force on the mandibular buccal area of the first molars was largest. On the buccal side, the perioral force after treatment was smaller than that in the correspondence area before the treatment (P<0.05). On the lingual side, the perioral force after treatment was also smaller than that in the correspondence area before the treatment (P<0.05)except the first molar area. CONCLUSION£º The perioral force is correlated with facial skeletal position. The related position of upper and lower jaws decides the value of the perioral force. ......
