【Abstract】 AIM: To observe the expression of polymorphonuclear neutrophil (PMN) ICAM1, adhension rate of neutrophil to cultured endothelial cell during cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB), and the influence of glutathione on it. METHODS: Twenty children with congenital heart disease aged from 5 to 12 years were randomly divided into control group and interventional group. Patients in interventional group received redued glutathione (30 mg/kg) in priming fluid. The blood was sampled on the time of 24 h before operation, 20 min after CPB, before rewarming, the end of CPB, 4 h after operation, 24 h after operation in the control group, and on the time of 24 h before operation, 4 h after operation in the interventional group. After isolated PMN,we detected the expression of ICAM1 in PMN by immunohistochemistry, assayed adhension rate of neutrophil to cultured endothelial cell. RESULTS: Both the expression of ICAM1 and adhesion rate to EC were elevated during CPB, and the values in interventional group were obviously lower than that in control group at 4 h after operation [(2.52±0.96)×106 vs ( 4.20±0.82)×106; (23.63±2.51)% vs (27.99±2.58)%, P<0.05].
