Expression of PCNA in myocardia of rabbits with myocardial infarction and its significance

    ¡¾Abstract¡¿ AIM: To reveal the significance of positive expression of proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA) in myocardia of rabbits with myocardial infarction and the relationship between PCNA positive expression and left ventricular function. METHODS: The cardiac muscle samples obtained from the rabbits with myocardial infarction were immunohistochemically stained with monoclonal antibody of PCNA and ¦Áª²actin. Imaging analysis was made to measure the degree of immunohistochemical staining and the data were compared with the cardiac function and the degree of myocardial ischemia. RESULTS: Immunohistochemical PCNA positive expression was observed in cardiomyocytes and fibroblast nuclei and the degree of PCNA positive expression was negatively correlated with the systolic wall thickening rate and the range of ventricular wall motion (spearman r=-0.711 and -0.674, respectively). CONCLUSION: The positive expression of PCNA in the myocardium after myocardial infarction is a sort of repairing response to the injury. The injured cardiomyocytes with PCNA positive expression have decreased contractile function. ......
