    【Abstract】 AIM: To investigate the effects of antisense oligodeoxynucleotide bcl2 (bcl2 ASODN) on the growth of rabbit lens epithelial cells (LEC) induced by galactose. METHODS: Oligonucleotides, which complemented with translation initiation region of bcl2 gene, were synthesized and modified with phosphorothioate. Lens epithelial cells were treated with galactose and bcl2 ASODN. The effects of bcl2 ASODN on the growth of LECs, which were cultured in high galactose, were analyzed by cell counts and methyl thiazolyl tetrazoliuym (MTT) assay. RESULTS: 2.5-10.0 μmol/L bcl2 ASODN inhibited the growth of LEC induced by galactose in a dosedependent manner. CONCLUSION: bcl2 ASODN can inhibit the growth of LEC induced by galactose. ......
