Expression and clinicopathologic significance of Cyclin D1 in squamous cell carcinoma of tongue

    ¡¾Abstract¡¿ AIM: To study the expression and clinicopathologic relation of Cyclin D1 in tongue squamous cell carcinoma. METHODS: Paraffinª²embedded archival materials from 42 cases of tongue squamous cell carcinoma and 19 cases of benign disease were examined for the expression of Cyclin D1 with immunohistochemistry by retrospective study. RESULTS: Overexpression of Cyclin D1 in nucleus was found in 55% cases of tongue squamous cell carcinoma, and in direct proportion to histopathologic grading and lymphoid node metastasis (P<0.05). To compare Cyclin D1 positive with negative group, the recurrence relative risk (RRR) is 1.959 (P>0.05) and the recurrence free survival (RFS) is not significant in Kaplanª²Meier Surival curve (P>0.05). CONCLUSION: Overexpression of Cyclin D1 was found in tongue squamous cell carcinoma tissue. It may be correlated with the development and differentiation of the tumor, but its expression cannot be acted as a prognostic marker. ......
