【Abstract】 AIM: To investigate the expression and change of heat shock protein (HSP70) and cMyc in brain following craniocerebral gunshot wounds in canines. METHODS: Twentyfour canines were randomly divided into control and injury group. Using the canine model of tangent brain injury (TBI) established by bullets of Germanmade smallcaliber rifles, HSP70 and cmyc positive neurons were observed in the contusion trajectory area, concussion trajectory area, hippocampus and brain stem at 30 min, 2, 6, 12, and 24 h after trauma by immunohistochemical method. RESULTS: Feeble HSP70 and cmyc were detected in the control group. In the injury group, positive expression of heat shock protein in neurons in the contusion trajectory area, concussion trajectory area, hippocampus and brain stem increased at 2 h after craniocerebral gunshot wounds, reached the peak at 12 h and began to decrease at 24 h. The cMyc positive expression in the abovementioned areas increased at 30m after craniocerebral gunshot wounds, reached the peak at 2 h, began to decrease at 6 h and had no difference from that of the control group at 24 h. The nearer was the inner destructive area, the more obvious effects had HSP70 and cmyc positive expression. CONCLUSION: Induction and expression of HSP70 and cMyc in the contusion area, concussion trajectory area, hippocampus and brain stem are the early reaction after brain gunshot wounds. The temporal pattern and expression extent of HSP70 may be similar to thsoe of cMyc, but the elevated induction of HSP70 appears to be delayed as compared with that of cmyc. ......
