     Clinical comparison of mild hypothermia beatingheart and moderate hypothermia arrestedheart intracardiac procedure in pediatrics

    【Abstract】 AIM: To compare the effects of mild hypothermia beatingheart cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) with those of moderate hypothermia arrestedheart CPB in pediatric intracardiac procedure. METHODS: 518 patients whose age were under 3 years underwent open heart surgery. In group 1, 96 patients underwent arrestedheart operation, and in group 2, 422 patients underwent beatingheart operations. Duration of CPB, incidence of low cardiac output and postoperative concentration of creatine kinase myocardial band(CKMB), ect, were compared between the two groups. RESULTS: Duration of CPB and postoperative mechanical respiratory assistance duration in group 2 were shorter than those in group 1 (P<0.01). Transfusion requirements and blood loss were fewer in group 2 than those were in group 1 (P<0.01) . The incidence of low cardiac output syndrome was lower in group 2 (P<0.05). Concentration of CKMB and percentage of metabolism acidosis were lower in group 2 than those were in group 1 (P<0.01), while the index of oxygenation was higher in group 2 (P<0.01). CONCLUSION: The effect of mild hypothermia beatingheart CPB is superior to that of moderate hypothermia arrestedheart CPB in pediatric cardiac surgery. Therefore, the mild hypothermia beatingheart CPB is a safe and effective technique applied to pediatric cardiac surgery. ......
