【Abstract】 AIM: To compare the effects of mild hypothermia beatingheart cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) with those of moderate hypothermia arrestedheart CPB in pediatric intracardiac procedure. METHODS: 518 patients whose age were under 3 years underwent open heart surgery. In group 1, 96 patients underwent arrestedheart operation, and in group 2, 422 patients underwent beatingheart operations. Duration of CPB, incidence of low cardiac output and postoperative concentration of creatine kinase myocardial band(CKMB), ect, were compared between the two groups. RESULTS: Duration of CPB and postoperative mechanical respiratory assistance duration in group 2 were shorter than those in group 1 (P<0.01). Transfusion requirements and blood loss were fewer in group 2 than those were in group 1 (P<0.01) . The incidence of low cardiac output syndrome was lower in group 2 (P<0.05). Concentration of CKMB and percentage of metabolism acidosis were lower in group 2 than those were in group 1 (P<0.01), while the index of oxygenation was higher in group 2 (P<0.01). CONCLUSION: The effect of mild hypothermia beatingheart CPB is superior to that of moderate hypothermia arrestedheart CPB in pediatric cardiac surgery. Therefore, the mild hypothermia beatingheart CPB is a safe and effective technique applied to pediatric cardiac surgery. ......
