Survival analysis of supratentorial astrocytomas

    ¡¾Abstract¡¿ AIM: To evaluate the factors that affect the survival of the supratentorial astrocytomas patients. METHODS: Kaplanª²Meier and Cox regression model were used to evaluate the possible prognostic factors: sex, age, tumor locus, KPS score before operation, epilepsy before operation, histological grade, peripheral edema, tumorª²brain interface status, intratumor calcification, cystic changes of tumor, family history of tumor, type of surgery, postoperative radiotherapy and size of tumor. RESULTS: In analysis of Kaplanª²Meier, the following characteristics had a significant influence on the survival time: age, tumor locus, KPS score before operation, histological grade, peripheral edema, tumorª²brain interface status, intratumor calcification, cystic changes of tumor, family history of tumor, type of surgery, postoperative radiotherapy and size of tumor. In multivariate analysis of Cox regression model, the following characteristics had a significant influence on the survival time: position of tumor, KPS score before operation, histological grade, type of surgery and postoperative radiotherapy and size of tumor. CONCLUSION: New instruments and measures will improve the survival of supratentorial astrocytomas patients. ......
