【Abstract】 AIM: To study the protective effects of XueSaiTong Injection on the renal injury caused by obstructive jaundice (OJ) in rabbits. METHODS: Fortyeight rabbits were first randomly divided into two groups: the group of OJ (group A, 24 rabbits) and the group of OJ treated with XueSaiTong Injection (group B, 24 rabbits). Then each group was further subdivided into four subgroups and all the rabbits used in this study were raised under the same condition. Auto biochemical analysis equipment was used to examine the TBIL, Cr and BUN in serum at different times and immunohistochemistry was used to determine the expressions of Bax and Bcl2 on renal. RESULTS: Expressions of Bcl2 and Bax on the renal tissues were observed following OJ. The expression of Bax reached the peak value at the 9th d and the highest expression of Bcl2 was observed at the 21st d. The apoptosis index (AI) increased with the increase of Bax expression but decreased with Bcl2 strong expression. A lower expression of Bax and a higher expression of Bcl2 were found in group B compared with those of group A. The AI value was also lower in group B than that in group A. CONCLUSION: XueSaiTong Injection has some protective effects on the renal injury caused by OJ, for XueSaiTong Injection may upregulate the expression of Bcl2 and downregulate the expression of Bax in renal tissues. ......
