Diode laser in treating prostatic hyperplasia: Review of 420 cases

    ¡¾Abstract¡¿ AIM: To evaluate the transuretheral interstitial laser coagulation of the prostate in patients with prostatic hyperplasia. METHODS: A total of 420 patients with prostatic hyperplasia from the 5 past years were treated by indigo 830e interstitial laser coagulation (ILC). The surgery safety and curative effect were observed. RESULTS: ILC procedures were successful in all the cases. Followª²up studies were carried out for 372 patients. Three months after operation, the IPSS score was 8.0¡À2.6, the QOL score was 2.1¡À0.5, and the Qmax and residual urine were (17.1¡À3.0) mL/s and (9.6¡À3.0) mL respectively. All the signs were apparently improved and the curative effect was significantly (P<0.01). CONCLUSION: The best result can be achieved 2ª²3 months after the procedure and the effective rate reaches 100%. With less damage and less complications, diode laser is an effective and safe method to treat prostatic hyperplasia. ......
