【Abstract】 AIM: To explore the effect of Chinese herb QiDanTongMai Tablet (QDTMT) on the rat artic endothelial cell lesion and the expression of PAI1 on aorta. METHODS: Seventytwo male SD rats were divided into six experimental groups. Of the six groups, one was assigned randomly as the control group and was given normal diet (n=12) and one as the model group and was given vitamin D3, high fat and cholesterol diet to make atherosclerosis models (n=12). The other four groups, in addition to vitamin D3, high fat and cholesterol diet, were divided into low dose QDTMT group[0.36 g/(kg·d)], moderate dose QDTMT group[1.08 g/(kg·d)], high dose QDTMT group[3.24 g/(kg·d)] and Simvastatin group[4 mg/(kg·d)] for 16 weeks. The level of endothelial cell lesion was then observed by scanning electron microscope and the expression of PAI1 on aorta in every group was detected by reverse transcript polymerse chain reaction (RTPCR). RESULTS: The level of the endothelial cell lesion and the level of PAI1 expression in the model group were markedly higher than those of the control group. The significant decrease of PAI1 expression was detected in groups taking QDTMT. The higher the dose of the QDTMT, the lower the expression of PAI1. CONCLUSION: QDTMT can decrease the level of endothelial cell lesion and the expression of PAI1 on aorta in a dosedependent manner in rats with atherosclerosis. ......
