【Abstaract】 AIM: To establish a method for rapidly determinating the content of clarithromycin in preparation. METHODS: To utilize visible spectrophotometry based on the charge transfer reaction between clarithromycin as donor and alizarin as acceptor in alcoholwater solution. RESULTS: The apparent molar absorptivity of complex was 7.31×103 L/(mol·cm) at 546 nm, while the composition ratio and stability constant of charge transfer complex were 1∶1 and 3.4×104 respectively. Beer’s law was strictly obeyed in the range of 1-100 mg/L of clarithromycin. The average recovery was over 98.0%. The average standard deviation of six determinations was 1.30% when the concentration of clarithromycin was 50 mg/L. CONCLUSION: The proposed method is stable, accurate, sensitive and rapid, which can contribute to satisfactory results for the determination of clarithromycin in preparation. ......
