【Abstract】 AIM: To investigate the relaxant effect of U50,488H (a selective κopioid receptor agonist) on renal artery in rats and the underlying mechanism. METHODS: Isolated renal artery was perfused and the tension of the vessel was measured. RESULTS: U50,488H had the significant dosedependent relaxant effect on rat renal artery. The relaxation of U50,488H on rat renal artery was enhanced with denuded endothelium. The relaxant effect of U50,488H on renal artery was not influenced in the presence of different blockers such as glibenclamide, LNAME, indomethacin, atropine, and propranalol. CONCLUSION: It is demonstrated for the first time that U50,488H significantly relaxes the renal artery of rats, which is attenuated by endothelium intact and bears no relationship to KATP channel, nitric oxide (NO), prostaglandin, muscarinicreceptor and βadrenoceptor. ......
