【Abstract】 AIM: To investigate the effect of intracerebroventricular administration of streptozotocin (STZ) on expression of Aβ in rat brain. METHODS: Twentyfour adult SpragueDawleyer rats were divided into 2 groups randomly (n=12). The rats in the operation group received intracerebroventricular injection of STZ bilaterally with a dose of 3 mg/kg and the injection was repeated on the third day. The rats in the sham operation group received the same treatment as the first group except for STZ injection. Twenty one days later, immunohistochemical method was used to investigate the expression of Aβ140 and Aβ142. RESULTS: After intracerebroventricular injection of STZ, the expression of A β140 and Aβ142 increased in both the cortex and hippocampus in rat brain. CONCLUSION: Expression of Aβ increase after intracerebroventricular injection of STZ, indicating that the disturbance of insulin/insulin receptor system may play an important role in the pathogenesis of Alzheimers disease. ......
