Effect of sodium valproate on ectopic spontaneous discharge of injured dorsal root ganglion neurons in ratsYANG RuiHua, XING JunLing, HU SanJue

【Abstract】 AIM: To investigate the effect of sodium valproate on ectopic spontaneous discharge (ESD) in injured dorsal root ganglion (DRG) neurons. METHODS: Single dorsal root fiber was separated, the ESD conducted from injured DRG neurons was recorded and the effects of different concentrations of sodium valproate were observed. RESULTS: Different concentrations of sodium valproates decreased the number of ESD in a dosedependent manner. CONCLUSION: The administration of sodium valproate inhibits the number of ESD from injured DRG neurons. This may lay a foundation for using sodium valproate peripherally as analgetic.
