Expression of telomerase and PCNA protein in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma tissue and its significance

    ¡¾Abstract¡¿ AIM: To study the expression of telomerase and PCNA protein in four different pathological types of advanced esophageal cell cancer. METHODS: One hundred and twentyª²six cases with esophageal cancer of different pathological types were included in study by immunohistochemistry and the results were analyzed by SPSS 10.0. RESULTS: The positive rates of telomerase expression and PCNA were 60.0% (18/30) and 83.3% (25/30) in fungating type, 75.0% (21/28) and 78.5% (22/28) in constrictive type, 75.0% (24/32) and 15.6% (5/32) in ulcerative type and 44.4% (16/36) and PCNA 77.8% (28/36) in medullary type. Chiª²square test was performed (telomerase ¦Ö2=378.829, P<0.005 and PCNA ¦Ö2=357.656, P<0.005). CONCLUSION: The expression of human telomerase and PCNA gene was different in advanced esophageal cell cancer of different pathological types. Simultaneous immunohistochemistry examination of both telomerase and PCNA is of significance for the prognosis of esophageal cancers. ......
