Establishment of hamsterª²toª²rat cardiac concordant xenotransplantation model

    ¡¾Abstract¡¿ AIM: To establish a simplified method of heterotopic abdominal cardiac xenotransplantation. METHODS: The hamster to rat cardiac xenotransplantation was performed by means of "sleeve and cuff" method. The donor¬ðs common carotid artery was anastomosed to the recipient¬ðs left renal artery with a "sleeve" anastomosis, and the "cuffed" right pulmonary artery was anastomosed to the left renal vein. The viability of the donor¬ðs heart was examined by daily palpation of the left abdominal wall. RESULTS: Of the 105 cases receiving heterotopic abdominal cardiac xenotransplantation, complete success was achieved in 95 cases. The xenograft survived for 3 to 4 d after the transplantation and typical acute vascular rejection was presented. CONCLUSION: A useful, easy and stable model has been established for the investigation of the mechanism of the concordant xenotransplantation. ......
