    Relationship between mast cells and volume of fibrosis in myocardium of rheumatic heart disease

    Abstract:AIM To investigate the relationship between mast cells and volume of fibrosis in myocardium of rheumatic heart disease.METHODS The numbers of mast cells were measured by toluidine blue staining and the expressions of typesⅠandⅢcollagens and PCNA were tested by immuno-histochemical staining.The correlation analysis was per-formed between the experimental and control groups.RE┐SULTS The volume of fibrosis inueased significantly and was positively correlated to PCNA expression(r=0.875，P<0.01).The number of mast cells in the myocardium of rheumatic heart diseases was significantly higher than that of healthy adult control group and was positively correlated with the expressions of typesⅠandⅢcollagens(rⅠ =0.797，rⅡ =0.851，P<0.01).CONCLUSION Mast cells may take part in collagen synthesis in myocardium of the rheumatic heart diseases.Measurement of number of mast cells can in-directly reflect the degrees of cardiac fibrosis. ......
