     Effects of sleep deprivation on gastric mucosal lesions and level of endothelin and calcitoningene related peptide in rats

    【Abstract】 AIM: To observe the effects of sleep deprivation (SD) on gastric mucosal lesions and level of endothelin (ET) and calcitoningene related peptide (CGRP) in rats. METHODS: SD was induced in male SpragueDawley rats by housing them on small platform over water. Controls were housed either in normal cages (CC) or on the large platform over water (TC). The index of gastric mucosal lesions was quantified and the levels of ET and CGRP in arterial blood were detected by radioimmunoassay (RIA). RESULTS: On the SD day 3, SD day 5 and SD day 7, the gastric mucosal lesions of the SD group, with the injury index (29.8±3.2) and (33.7±3.6) and (34.8±3.5) respectively, were more serious than those of CC group and TC group. The levels of ET and CGRP in blood samples changed significantly in the SD group. On the SD day 3, SD day 5 and SD day 7, the levels of ET were (123±28), (139±36) and (149±38) ng/L, respectively. On the SD day 5 and SD day 7, the levels of CGRP were (193±32) ng/L and (221±40) ng/L, respectively. CONCLUSION: Sleep deprivation can cause the gastric mucosal lesions, accompanied with the content changes of ET and CGRP. ......
