【Abstract】 AIM: To investigate the expression features of MMP9 and TIMP1 in renal tubulointerstitial tissues in rats with adriamycininduced nephropathy and their significance. METHODS: The mice model of nephropathy was established by tail vein injection of adriamycin 7.5 mg/kg. The renal histopathological changes, the urine protein excretion, urinary NAG and β2MG were examined. The expressions of MMP9 and TIMP1 in the cortex of the kidneys were examined by immunohistochemistry. RESULTS: The tubulointerstitial injury, the excretion of urine protein, urinary NAG and β2MG in nephrotic rats significantly increased as compared with those of the normal control group. In nephropathy group, the expression of MMP9 in the tubular cells increased on day 7 and reached the peak on day 14, with significantly higher quantities than those in normal group(P<0.05). The expression of TIMP1 increased significantly compared with that in the normal group on day 14, day 28 and day 56(P<0.05). CONCLUSION: The abnormal expression of MMP9 and TIMP1 in the tubular cells contributes to the pathogenesis of tubulointerstitial fibrosis. ......
