Analysis of personality characteristics of patients to have cosmetic eyelidª²bag operation

    ¡¾Abstract¡¿ AIM: To investigate the personality characteristics of patients who were to have cosmetic eyelidª²bag operation so as to provide psychological evaluation references in solving the increasing cosmetic surgery disputes. METHODS: Thirty female subjects who were to have eyelidª²bag operation were examined with Cattell 16 Personality Factor Inventory (16PF) and Eysenck Personality Questionnaire (EPQ). Thirty normal females used as controls matched the subjects in age, education level and marital status (P>0.05). RESULTS: Cattell 16PF analysis demonstrated that the scores of dominance (E), gallantry (H), and vigilance (L) of the patients were significantly higher than those of controls [(5.74¡À1.37) vs (4.81¡À1.47),(6.25¡À1.45) vs (5.25¡À1.78), and (4.88¡À1.34) vs (4.12¡À1.59) respectively, P<0.05]. Among the EPQ items, the lie scale (L scale) was significantly different between the patients and controls [(55.22¡À10.10) vs (48.96¡À12.36), P<0.05]. CONCLUSION: The patients who are to have eyelidª²bag operation are of their own characteristics: dominance, gallantry, vigilance, extroversion, and camouflage. This study suggests that proper psychological evaluation of the subjects is necessary before cosmetic operations. ......
