【Abstract】 AIM: To study the protective effect of FeiNing on Bleomycin (BL)induced experimental pulmonary fibrosis in rats. METHODS: All the rats were randomly divided into six groups and all the rats except those in normal control group were given BL endotracheally. On d 2, each BL group was given LongDanHua, PNS, FeiNing and Hydrpnredniosone respectively. On d 7 and d 56, five rats in each group were killed and the lungs were harvested. The left lungs were used for histopathological studies (HE and MASSON staining) and the right lungs were homogenized for biochemical assays of SOD activity and Hp content. RESULTS: Compared with those in model group, the aleveolitis and pulmonary fibrosis were significantly alleviated in each treated group and the SOD activity in each treated group except that treated with PNS remarkably increased on d 7 (P<0.01). On d 56, the Hp contents in all the treated groups were significantly lowered (P<0.01) except those in the FeiNing treated group, which were not significantly different from those in the normal group. CONCLUSION: Both LongDanHua and PNS can enhance the activity of SOD, improve the oxidation/deoxidation balance, restrain the accumulation of collegan and protect the lungs from fibrosis. FeiNing has remarked protective effect on lungs. ......
