Intraoperative radiation therapy for 94 patients with stage¢òb cervical cancer

    ¡¾Abstract¡¿ AIM: To review the longª²term results of intraoperative radiation therapy (IORT) for cervical cancer patients at International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics(IFGO)Stage IIb.METHODS: Ninetyª²four patients with IFGO stage IIb cervical cancer who underwent IORT from December 1996 to March 2003 were retrospectively studied.Survival analyses were performed using Kaplanª²Meier method.The logª²rank test was used for univariate analyses and the Cox regression model was used for multivariate analyses.RESULTS: The median survival was 61ª±1 months and the 2ª² and 5ª²year overall survival rates were 92ª±4% and 82ª±3%,respectively.In univariate analysis,the patients with last pregnancy at the age of 36~42 years,squamous cell carcinoma,and normal body mass before treatment or tumor diameter of 3~5 cm had the best survival rate.Multivariate analysis showed that tumor type,lower body mass before IORT and last pregnant age were identified as important factors influencing the overall survival (P<0ª±05).CONCLUSION: IORT is effective and safe for patients with IFGO stage ¢òb cervical carcinoma.The survival rate will be improved by IORT,especially in patients with squamous cell carcinoma or last pregnancy age at 36~42 years old. ......
