【Abstract】 AIM: To study the significance of COX2 expression in the cervical cancer tissues and cell lines. METHODS: Immunohistochemical assay was used to detect COX2 in 29 cervical cancer, 14 chronic cervitis and 18 normal cervixes. Immunohistochemistry and in situ hybridization were used to detect the COX2 protein and mRNA in cervical cancer cell lines: SiHa and HeLa. The relationship between the expression of COX2 and the clinicopathologic parameters of cervical cancer was analyzed. RESULTS: ①The overall positive expression rate of COX2 in cervical cancer was 75.9%, higher than that in normal cervix and chronic cervitis (P<0.01); ②The intensity of expression of COX2 in cervical cancer was different in different tumor stages and tumor grades (P>0.05); ③ The overall positive expression rate of COX2 in cervical squamous carcinoma was higher than that in cervical adenocarcinoma but with no statistical significance (P>0.05), and no expression of COX2 was found in cervical adenosquamous carcinoma; ④ The overall positive expression of COX2 was observed in HeLa cells and SiHa cells, but the expression intensity was not significantly different; ⑤ The positive expression of COX2 mRNA was found in both HeLa cells and SiHa cells, and the expression intensity was not significantly different. CONCLUSION: The overexpression of COX2 in cervical tumor is related to the onset and progression of the disease. ......
