     Expression of cyclooxygenase2 in cervical carcinoma and its significance

    【Abstract】 AIM: To study the significance of COX2 expression in the cervical cancer tissues and cell lines. METHODS: Immunohistochemical assay was used to detect COX2 in 29 cervical cancer, 14 chronic cervitis and 18 normal cervixes. Immunohistochemistry and in situ hybridization were used to detect the COX2 protein and mRNA in cervical cancer cell lines: SiHa and HeLa. The relationship between the expression of COX2 and the clinicopathologic parameters of cervical cancer was analyzed. RESULTS: ①The overall positive expression rate of COX2 in cervical cancer was 75.9%, higher than that in normal cervix and chronic cervitis (P<0.01); ②The intensity of expression of COX2 in cervical cancer was different in different tumor stages and tumor grades (P>0.05); ③ The overall positive expression rate of COX2 in cervical squamous carcinoma was higher than that in cervical adenocarcinoma but with no statistical significance (P>0.05), and no expression of COX2 was found in cervical adenosquamous carcinoma; ④ The overall positive expression of COX2 was observed in HeLa cells and SiHa cells, but the expression intensity was not significantly different; ⑤ The positive expression of COX2 mRNA was found in both HeLa cells and SiHa cells, and the expression intensity was not significantly different. CONCLUSION: The overexpression of COX2 in cervical tumor is related to the onset and progression of the disease. ......
