Harvesting of combined pancreas and kidney for the treatment of type ¢ò diabetes with renal failure

    ¡¾Abstract¡¿ AIM: To discuss the harvesting and trimming of combined pancreas and kidney grafts from cadaveric donors and to examine the clinical outcome of type¢ò diabetes with renal failure treated with simultaneous pancreas and kidney transplantation. METHODS: Pancreas, duodenum and kidney grafts were obtained with methods of hypothermia perfusion in situ and whole piece harvesting in 7 cases of cadavers. The simultaneous pancreasª² kidney transplantation was performed in 1 case which was diagnosed as type ¢ò diabetes with renal failure. Renal allograft was placed in the left iliac fossa, whereas pancreas allograft in the right iliac fossa with pancreas exocrine drainage to bladder. RESULTS: The average warm ischemia time was 3 minutes. The average trimming time was 2 hours.
