Early diagnosis and emergency treatment of severe chest trauma

    ¡¾Abstract¡¿ AIM: To explore the early diagnosis and the effective methods for emergency treatment of severe chest trauma. METHODS: The data of 94 cases with severe chest trauma from August 2000 to July 2005 in emergency surgical department of our hospital were retrospectively analyzed. RESULTS: In this group, 86 (91.5%) cases were cured and 8 cases died (8.5%), including 2 who died from severe crush injury in chest, 4 from hemorrhagic shock due to heart or thoracic aortic pricking, or rupture of spleen and liver or trachea and 2 from severe infection at the end stage of multiple organ failure respectively. CONCLUSION: Severe chest trauma is critical condition with complicated clinical manifestations. Early diagnosis and timely treatment are essential to reduce mortality and improve the prognosis. ......
