Inferior petrosal sinus sampling in differential diagnosis of adrenocorticotropinª²dependent Cushing¬ðs syndrome

    ¡¾Abstract¡¿ AIM: To discuss the use of inferior petrosal sinus sampling (IPSS) in distinguishing between pituitary and ectopic sources of adrenocorti cotropin (ACTH)ª²dependent Cushing¬ð syndrome. METHODS: We retrospectively studied the data from 10 ACTHª²deperdent cushing¬ðs syndrome patients who underwent IPSS from 2003 to 2005. RESULTS: The prediction of IPSS was wrong in only 1 case of the 10 patients with ACTHª²dependent Cushing¬ðs syndrome. The accuracy of IPSS in distinguishing between pituitary and ectopic sources of ACTH dependent Cushing¬ðsyndrome was 90%. CONCLUSION: IPSS is greatly helpful to distinguish between pituitary and ectopic sources of ACTHª²dependent Cushing¬ðs syndrome. ......
