Origin:
Purple perilla is mainly produced in both the south and north of China, as the stems and leaves of purple Perilla frutesens (L.) Britt., an annual herb, of Labiatae, picked and gathered in summer and autumn. They are dried in the air and used raw.
Properties:
Pungent, sweet in flavor, slightly warm in nature, it is related to the lung, stomach and large intestine channels.
Functions:
Relieves stuffiness in the chest, checks upward adverse flow of lung- or stomach-qi and prevents miscarriage.
Applications:
Applicable to such ailments as stagnation of qi in the chest and abdomen, feeling of fullness in the chest and upper abdomen and threatened abortion.
Dosage and Administration:
3-10 g.
Decoction, but not for too long.
