【Abstract】AIM: To collect systematically the anatomic data of canine liver and affiliated conduits and provide a foundation for making a variety of canine models. METHODS: The dogs were anesthetized with pentobarbital sodium (30 mL/L, 1 mL/kg) through intraperitoneal injection. After abdomen was open with median incision in epigastric zone, liver was exposed sufficiently to measure the diameter of each hepatic lobe and the length and external diameter of liver affiliated conduits in natural or normal position. The liver was taken out of abdomen for measuring the branches of hepatic vein and short hepatic vein. And then every hepatic peduncle of all hepatic lobes was cut off for weighing the hepatic lobes. RESULTS: Sixtyeight canine livers and affiliated conduits were observed and 62 were measured in natural or normal position; 43 canine livers were observed and 33 were measured ex vivo. The canine liver is constituted by 7 lobes; that is left lateral lobe, left central lobe, quadrate lobe, right central lobe, right lateral lobe, caudate lobe and lingual lobe. The shape and proportion of hepatic lobes are comparatively constant. Each lobe has its independent Glisson system and hepatic vein system. The branches of the hepatic artery, hepatic vein, biliary tract and splenic vein of canine liver are particular. Splenic vein commonly is composed of 2 branches: upper pole and lower pole. CONCLUSION: We have succeeded in establishing anatomic database of canine liver and affiliated conduits, which makes a foundation for establishing various canine models. ......
