    ¡¾Abstract¡¿ AIM: To validate the feasibility and accuracy of full volume threeª² dimensional echocardiography (FVª²3DE) in evaluating the global and regional contractile function of left ventricle in normal persons and patients with coronary artery diseases. METHODS: FVª²3DE images were acquired in 16 normal subjects and 18 patients with coronary artery disease by a matrix array transducer, the global and regional volume and ejection fraction (EF) of left ventricle were measured by Tomª²Tec 4D LVª²analysis software. At the same time, the results of global and regional volume and EF were compared with those measured by Simpson¬ðs method. RESULTS: The global volume and EF of left ventricle could be measured with FVª²3DE well and truly in the normal subjects and the patients. There were no statistically significant differences among the results of FVª²3DE and Simpson¬ðs method. Meanwhile, detailed data about regional volume and contractile function of left ventricle could be get by FVª²3DE. CONCLUSION: FVª²3DE is a novel, noninvasive technique capable of detecting global and regional volume and contractile function of left ventricle. ......
