AbstractAIM: To compare two techniques of endoscopic metal stent placement in the treatment of gastric outlet obstruction (GOO) and evaluate their clinical efficacies.
METHODS:A total of 28 GOO patients were randomly allocated into 2 groups for endoscopic metal stent placement. Metal stents were placed under endoscope in 18 cases (group A), and they were placed into 10 cases (group B) through large aperture for biopsy. The clinical efficacy, complications and followed-up results were compared between the two groups.
RESULTS:The success rates of stent placement were 88.9% and 100%, respectively, in the two groups, and the overall success rate was as high as 94.4%. The effective rates for abdominal distention and vomiting were 81.3% and 87.5%, respectively. No obvious complications occurred in short term in all the patients except for 1 case of cardiac arrhythmia in group A ......
