Expression of MMPª²9 in skin squamous cell carcinoma and its significance in microangiogenesis

    ¡¾Abstract¡¿ AIM: To detect the role and the significance of MMPª²9 in microangiogenesis in skin squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) and to observe the relation between the expression of MMPª²9 and microvessel density (MVD) in SCC. METHODS£º Immunohistochemical SP staining was used to examine MMPª²9 expression and the change of MVD under light microscope in 45 cases of SCC, 19 cases of Bowen disease, and 10 cases of normal skin. RESULTS£º The expression of MMPª²9 in SCC group was significantly higher than that in Bowen disease group(P<0.05), while the latter was also significantly higher than that in normal skin group(P=0.028£¬ P<0.05). The level of MVD in SCC group was significantly higher than that in Bowen disease group (P<0.05), and the latter was significantly higher than that in normal skin group(P<0.05). CONCLUSION£º MMPª²9 is highly expressed in SCC, and may be one of important factors in angiogenesis of SCC. ......
