Investigation of mental health status of armymen addicted to playing card and therapeutic effect of local mental intervention

    ¡¾Abstract¡¿ AIM: To investigate the mental health status of armymen addicted to playing card and to treat them with effective local mental intervention. METHODS: Symptom Checklistª²90(SCLª²90) was adopted to assess experimental group and control group. Then the experimental group was treated with local mental therapeutic measures, such as the comprehensive intervention, shadowboxing therapy, bibliotherapy, highª²strength training therapy, etc. After 3 months, the SCLª²90 data between the 2 groups were compared and analyzed by tª²test. RESULTS: Before treatment, except psychopathy item , the mean scores of the other items were significantly different between the experimental group and the control group (P<0.01). After treatment, the experimental group was significantly different from the control group in somatization, obsessiveª²compulsive, anxiety, hostility, average total score, number and the mean scores of positive items (P<0.01), and was different in depression, paranoid ideation and psychoticism (P<0.05). No difference was found in the other items(P>0.05). In the experimental group, it was found the mean scores of all items were obviously different before and after treatment (P<0.05). The mean scores of all items were lower than those before treatment, and close to national norm. After treatment, several items of the experimental group, of which the mean score ¡Ý3, total score ¡Ý160, the mean score of positive items >43, had lower scores than before. And the scores of those items of the experimental group were higher than those of the control group before treatment, while were little lower than those of the control group after treatment. CONCLUSION: The mental health status of armymen addicted to playing card is very bad. The local mental intervention has remarkable effect on it. ......
