     Establishment of cerebral ischemia model by common bletilla tuber in rats

    【Abstract】 AIM: To develop a new embolic model of cerebral ischemia induced by common bletilla tuber in Wister rats. METHODS: The suspension of bletilla particles or bletilla gum was injected into the right internal carotid artery after the external carotid artery was exposed in Wister rats. In a certain period after operation, the assessment of neurological defects, red tetrazoline (TTC) staining and HE staining were performed. RESULTS: Four hours after operation, rats injected with bletilla particles developed temporary conscious disturbance, and sustained hemiparesis of contralateral limbs with spontaneous circling behavior. Ischemia or infarction was found obviously in the cortex of parietal, frontal lobes and basal nuclei of the right cerebral hemisphere, where the neurons characterized with vague outlines, pyknosis and necrosis of neuron nuclei were recognized as well. But hemiparesis and spontaneous circling behavior only lasted for 12 h after embolization with bletilla gum. CONCLUSION: Bletilla particles can be used to develop a sustained cerebral ischemia model in rats. ......
