     Effect of respiratory rate of mechanical ventilation on lung injury in rabbits

    【Abstract】 AIM: To investigate the effect of respiratory rate of mechanical ventilation on lung injury in rabbits. METHODS: Twentyfour New Zealand white rabbits were randomly divided into 3 groups: high respiratory rate group (40 times/min), low respiratory rate group (8 times/min) and normal control group (15 times/min), each group including 8 animals. The 3 groups were ventilated with tidal volume of 15 mL/kg body weight, FiO2 of 0.5, inspiratory time (I) of 25% and inspiratory pause time (P) of 10%. The indexes including mean artery blood pressure (MAP), heart beat (HR), PaO2, PaCO2, pH, airway peak pressure (Ppeak), plat pressure (Pplat) and lung compliance (Cst) were measured at 30, 60, 90 and 120 min during ventilation. The animals were sacrificed by draining artery blood at the end of experiment. Total cells from irrigating solution of left lung were counted.
