Diagnosis and treatment of primary retroperitoneal tumors with major manifestations of urology system (32 case reports)

    ABSTRACT: Objective To explore the diagnosis and treatment of the primary retroperitoneal tumor(PRT), which firstly manifested with signs and symptoms of the urology system. Methods The clinical data of 32 cases of PRT during 1993 to 2004, which were diagnosed by manifestations of urology system, were analyzed. Results Flank mass, flank pain, hematuria and nephrohydrosis were the main symptoms in these cases. Ultrasound and CT scanning were the most effective diagnostic methods. Complete resections were performed in 18 patients (56.25%), among whom 4 patients accepted combined organ resections. Partial resection was chosen for 9 patients. Resection couldn¬ðt be performed in 5 patients so only biopsy was conducted. Conclusion For those PRT patients with clinical manifestations in the urology system, effective preª²operation preparation and combined organ resection can be helpful in the complete resection of the primary tumor. ......
