【Abstract】 AIM: To explore the expression of vascular cell adhesion molecule1(VCAM1) in pulmonary tissues of rats with bleomycin(BLM)induced pulmonary fibrosis and the role of VCAM1 in vascular injury. METHODS: The immunoreaction of VCAM1 in pulmonary tissues of rats with BLMinduced pulmonary fibrosis was analyzed by immunohistochemical technique and image processing system. RESULTS: The expression of VCAM1 in the lung tissues of normal rats was weak, and distributed mainly in alveolar epithelial cells, bronchiole epithelial cells, alveolar macrophage and some pulmonary interstitium. The expression of VCAM1 in lung tissues of rats with BLM induced pulmonary fibrosis was higher than that in normal rats, with significant difference (P<0.05). CONCLUSION: VCAM1 is one of the important cell factors in BLMinduced pulmonary fibrosis and it directly participates in the pulmonary inflammation and the process of fibrosis. ......
