【Abstract】 AIM: To study the effects of electromagnetic fields (EMFs) on osteoporosis in ovariectomized (postmenopausal) rats. METHODS: The osteoporotic models were established in 20 female SD rats by bilateral ovariectomy and then divided into 2 groups (n=10). The experimental group was exposed to 15 Hz EMFs (8×10-4 T, 6 h / d), and the control group was not exposed to EMFs. All the animals were raised in the same conditions and killed at 12 th week after operation. The changes in serum bone carboxyglutamic acidcontaining protein (BGP), bone mineral density(BMD) and biomechanical properties were examined. RESULTS: Compared with control group, BMD, maximum load and structural rigidity in experimental group were significantly increased(P<0.05), and serum BGP were decreased obviously(P<0.05). CONCLUSION: EMFs is helpful to the treatment and prevention of osteoporosis. ......
