【Abstract】 AIM: To investigate the relationship among matrix metalloproteinase7 (MMP7), microvessel density (MVD) and clinicopathology in colorectal carcinoma and their roles in tumor invasion and metastasis. METHODS: Immunohistochemical (SP) method was performed to detect the expressions of MMP7 and MVD in biopsy specimens of the colorectal carcinoma (n=55) and of the healthy controls (n=20). RESULTS: Immunohistochemical staining revealed that the positive rate of MMP7 protein was 67.3% in colorectal carcinoma and 30.0% in controls (P<0.05); the expression of MVD was 41.32±6.39 in the colorectal carcinoma and 24.17±6.23 in controls (P<0.05). There was significant difference in the expression of MMP7 between in Dukes stage A, B (65.85%) and stage C, D(92.86%) of carcinoma (P<0.05). In the meanwhile, MVD was 35.22±7.37 in stage A, B and 43.67±4.34 in stage C, D(P<0.05). The expression of MVD in MMP7 positive group was significantly higher than that in MMP7 negative group (P<0.05). CONCLUSION: The overpressions of MMP7 and MVD may be helpful for intratumoral angiogenesis and metastasis of colorectal carcinoma. MMP7 and MVD provide a new valuable indictor for predicting early the highrisk patients. ......
